What You'll Find in this New DVD

Join me on a real-life case study in which I create a portrait of Michael and Sarisa. You'll witness the whole creative process, from the photo shoot, the choosing of favorite images, to how I work and explore possibilities in Corel Painter X and to delivery of the completed portrait to the client. This goes beyond what I have offered previously on my earlier DVDs in that I share my whole portraiture process, including the photo shoot itself. You'll learn about my approach to creativity using Corel Painter X, see how I organize my workflow, how I choose brushes and colors, how I apply my brush strokes and add grapple with the image, trying variations along the way. The instruction is designed to allow you to easily follow along with me on your own computer, using the tutorial files provided.

This DVD-ROM tutorial is the next best thing to spending a week in my studio looking over my shoulder as I work, available to you for a fraction of the cost of taking one of my week-long studio workshops. Scroll down for detailed descriptions of the video contents and the extra resource disc contents. There is new unique material in this DVD that is quite distinct from, and complementary to, that provided in any of my earlier DVD sets, including the Art of Collage Portraiture DVD set.

This is what the portrait subjects, Michael and Sarisa, had to say about the painting:

Michael:

"We are thrilled with the painting! It's fabulous! It really cheers up the house. It's so special because it has both of us and it's the only thing we have up on the walls that reflects our togetherness. And that's incredible. Such a beautiful piece of art. Thank you again."

Sarisa:

"I just wanted to take this opportunity to again tell you how much I love the
painting! When I walk into the living room I am greeted by the vibrant
lovely artwork it just brings a smile to my face!

You are truly a gifted artist and I thank you from the bottom of my heart
for creating this memorable piece of artwork for Michael and myself!"

Added Bonus Video: Oxford University Lecture

This live portrait of Ted Nelson, the computer pioneer who invented "hypertext", was created as part of a presentation, The Tale of Two Portraits: From Crayon to Computer, that I gave at the Oxford Internet Institute, Oxford University, in June, 2007. The whole 2 hour lecture-demo, in which I compare painting portraits with traditional and digital media, is included as an added bonus on this new instructional DVD. (Don't miss the unique rendition of "Mack the Knife", the song made famous by Bobby Darin, sung a cappella in German by my portrait subject!)

DVD-ROM versus DVD-Video

The "How to Paint from Photographs Using Corel Painter X: Creative Techniques with Jeremy Sutton" DVD set is a DVD-ROM. A DVD-ROM is a data disc that only plays on a computer (Mac or Windows PC), not on a TV or regular stand alone DVD player. A DVD-Video plays on regular DVD players as well as computers. DVD-ROM offers the benefit of the QuickTime slider that allows you to easily and quickly navigate around each movie, and permits a larger total viewing area (in this case 1024 x 768 pixels, including a custom navigation interface) than a non-HD DVD-Video (the total viewing area of which is typically 720 x 480 pixels).

Online Training
PaintboxJ.com:

Video tutorials,
more articles...

The interface has not changed significantly between Painter X and Painter 11 so you can easily apply the lessons from all my earlier materials when using Corel Painter 11. Likewise my PaintboxJ Painter 11 tutorials can all be easily applied in earlier versions of Painter. I do strongly recommend upgrading to Painter 11 if you currently have an earlier version. The newest Painter is the best yet. It is significantly faster than earlier versions and includes a whole new class of wonderful brushes (the Hard Media brushes).

Hands-on Training
There's no substitute for hand-on training. Take a class and enjoy the fastest and most effective way to learn Painter and develop your artistic and creative skills.

"I am enjoying my copy of Painter 8 Creativity (I think I was probably the first person in Australia to buy it!). I appreciate the way in which you value the creative process with as much importance as the final article. As a professional teacher / illustrator I wholeheartedly agree with this approach. I encourage my students not to cram formulas but to search for ways to solve each problem as it presents itself. Each section of your book is in itself a springboard into an array of new experimentations.
Paul Duff"

"Hello Jeremy,
I just bought a copy of Painter 8 Creativity and I am in heaven. As a published author myself I applaud your excellent work! As a reawakening artist I am stirred and deeply inspired. Thank you!
Your book made my day! Maybe the rest of my life, in fact.
Sincerely,
Patricia"
