A Collage by Karen Bonaker of her Dad
I was moved when Karen, a Painter teacher and host of the Painter Talk Forum, sent me a copy of the beautiful collage (reproduced above) she made of her Dad as a result of following the instructions in my "Art of Collage Portraiture" DVD. I will let her words and art speak for themselves.
"Dear Jeremy,
When I first studied art years ago in college, collage was always my favorite process. Finding a way to incorporate it into my Corel Painter process was always a challenge until I found your wonderful DVD set. It helped me in every way to think in terms of the end process and the steps to getting there. There is no other creative process I know of that brings so many elements together at one time as collage. The journey is incredible. Thank you Jeremy for helping me on my journey!
The emotions , and healing that I went through creating "My Hero" (shown here) based on my Dad, was an incredible journey. I scanned images from the past and a part of his life that he often told us stories of as children. I know you must have felt this as well when you did the collage of your Dad.

Follow a Project From Beginning to End Looking Over My Shoulders
I teach as I would want to be taught. I have found that following along a real life project and seeing how someone tackles the problems that arise along the way, while explaining everything in clear, easy-to-understand terms, is the way I like to learn. I just finished the 3rd DVD...I enjoyed your style . You have given me many ideas and have enriched my creativity...The new brush sets are fabulous. Sunburst,oily confetti, mishmash,crazy type...they are great. My father is 84 and I am going to start with a collage of his life then move on to each one of his sisters. That should keep me busy for a year or so. Some day you will see me in San Francisco in one of your workshops.

Jeremys tutorials and educational materials are always a real treat, so it was with great anticipation I opened "The Art of Collage Portraiture" from Jeremy. I knew that this would once again be worthy of applause and bravos for the artist whose work I am most inspired by. I wasn't disappointed! Jeremys new DVD set is the ultimate in learning the power and creativity of using Corel Painter to the fullest. In detail and in easy to understand movies, Jeremy takes us through the process of organization and setting up to work on a collage project from the beginning through to the painting process. He doesn't leave out a thing as the DVD set takes the project to completion. It even covers the use of alternative art methods of finishing the canvas right up to the presentation of the finished piece of art ready to hang.
Jeremys bonus of brushes and extra art materials are the most fun to work with and as always, his brushes are creative and easy to use. WOW and double WOW is all I can say about this DVD set. Everyone who is interested in digital artistry will find this a "Must Have" for their educational collection.

What to Buy?
I recommend starting off with my book, Painter X Creativity: Digital Artist's Handbook, and introductory DVD, Learning Corel Painter X with Jeremy Sutton. The book is a great complement to all my other materials and also serves as the required text book for all my classes. The book goes deeper and broader than any DVD. It also provides covenient step lists for many of the techniques shared on the DVDs. The Learning Corel Painter X DVD gives you a good overview of the software.
Once you are familiar with the basics then I recommend the more advanced DVD sets, How to Paint from Photographs Using Corel Painter X - Creative Techniques with Jeremy Sutton
and Expanding Your Creativity with Jeremy Sutton - The Art of Collage Portraiture. Both these more advanced DVD sets take you through real-life case studies from beginning to end, sharing along the way my work-flow, organizational systems, creative process, decision-making strategies, techniques and tools, plus including extensive extra brushes, art materials, tutorial images and more. In these two DVD sets I share cross-media techniques that show how I work with different programs and apply traditional media onto my prints.
If you are keen to dive in deeply and work through all my materials then I recommend my Ultimate Collection 2007 which includes all the items mentioned above at a discounted price (roughly equivalent to having the Learning Corel Painter X DVD thrown in for free).
