What to bring

• Computer, either Mac or Windows, laptop or desktop. For optimum operation have the latest version of your computer operating system, either Mac OS X or Windows XP or Vista, with as much RAM as you can afford (at least 500 MB recommended) and enough free hard drive space to save project files generated during the workshop (at least 5 GB free hard drive space recommended). Please bring with you your password for instaling drivers and programs on your computer.
• Corel Painter X software (current version is 10.1.052) which you can purchase, upgrade to, or download a trial version of, from Corel.com. The instruction is specific to Painter X. Using earlier versions of the program will mean you do not get the most out of this workshop. It is important you have the most current version. Please bring with you your Painter X installation discs if you have them.
• Wacom tablet (Jeremy recommends the Wacom Intuos3 6 x 8 or larger). I recommend you instal the latest Wacom driver which you can download from Wacom.com.
• Digital photos that you'd like to transform into paintings. Prepare about ten to fifteen varied color images you'd like to work with, some close up face shots, some with nature and landscapes in the background, some lighter, some darker. Each digitized source image should be between 2000 and 3000 pixels in the maximum dimension and be saved as flat RGB TIFFs (in Adobe Photoshop you can verify Image > Mode > RGB Color and 8 Bits / Channel). Before attending the workshop please ensure your source files can be opened in Corel Painter X. Start a folder for collecting your source images. Name each source image file with a meaningful name so you can identify what it is. Please do the selecting, renaming and, if needed, resizing, of all your source images BEFORE coming to class.
• Examples of your artwork, and of artistic styles you admire and would like to emulate.
• Inspiring books (make sure your name is clearly written in your books).
• Your enthusiasm! You do not need prior experience with Corel Painter or a Wacom tablet. All you need is an eagerness to learn and be creative!
• Required text book, "Painter X Creativity: Digital Artist's Handbook", which includes a CD of fabulous extra custom brushes and art materials. Please also bring any other DVD sets you have from Jeremy. See Shop for other of Jeremy's educational products.
• Layered clothing to cope with San Francisco's unpredicatble weather.
• Comfortable shoes for the classroom, which has a concrete floor.
• Colorful clothing to wear on the Color day.

"I attended Jeremy Sutton's Painter Panache Intro Class 7-11 Feb 05. My objective for attending the class was to learn both technical and creativity skills which would take me a level beyond my present skills. I recently retired from the U.S. Army which gave me an opportunity to travel and photograph various people and their cultures. I consider myself an advanced amateur photographer and have had my work published in numerous calendars but was not satisfied with my creativity. I wanted to be able to take my existing images and make them works of art which I am delighted to say, Jeremy taught me to do in the class. I have attended other photography workshops in the past but I can honestly say that Jeremy is by far the best instructor. The difference is, he gives personal attention to each student during the duration of the entire course. He is a master digital artist and shares his techniques with his students. After returning from the course, I rolled up my sleeves and have worked on and completed exhibition quality images which I am going to sell in art galleries, calendars, and posters. I would also like to say besides learning the ins and outs of Painter IX, I also gained a lot of insight into myself and my abilities during the duration of the course when we made and critiqued images. If you are planning on taking the Intro Course, I recommend you first purchase Jeremy's most recent training DVD's, Painter IX Simplified and study those prior to attending the class. I worked with my set for approximately two weeks before the class and as a result, obtained so much more information because of my familiarity with the techniques. If you can't attend the class, I recommend you purchase the DVD's and use them to learn Jeremy's painterly techniques. If you are serious about becoming a digital artist, Jeremy is the master instructor!
