Painter Panaché Master Class:
Explorations In Color

Ramada Plaza Hotel, San Francisco
September 29 - October 3, 2003
Jeremy Sutton

A Great Opportunity to Deepen Your Artistry

This is the first of a five year series of Master Classes. This class will be focused on exploring the use of color in transforming photographs into paintings.

In this exciting and intensive hands-on, bring-your-own-computer, workshop you will explore different ways to approach using color in your paintings. You will look at the examples of Old Masters, Impressionists, Fauvists and other art movements and styles and develop your understanding of color.

Structured Hands-on Learning

Each day includes a review of material, a class critique, a techniques demonstration, a hands-on project assignment when you try out the demonstrated techniques on an image of your own. Also included during the week are Marketing Wraps where we discuss how to integrate the Painter techniques learnt into your workflow and business. This Wrap facilitates the conversion of the skills and knowledge you acquire during the week into income-generating products.

Guaranteed Small Class Size

I am limiting the class size. This will ensure a high level of personal attention.

Intermediate to Advanced Level

This is a class aimed at people who are already familiar with Painter. If you are not sure whether you have sufficient experience please contact me.

Fees and Requirements

The course fee is $750 (includes complimentary signed copy of new book, Painter 8 Creativity:Digital Artist's Handbook).

Students are responsible for their own travel, lodgings and meals. The Ramada Plaza offers a workshop special rate of $89/night (just say you're there for the Painter workshop) or you may even get a better rate by booking through Expedia.com. Students should bring their own computers, either Mac or Windows, either laptop or desktop, equipped with the latest version of Corel Painter and a tablet (I recommend the Wacom Intuos2 6x8). I highly recommend you have the latest version of your computer operating system, either Mac OS X or Windows 2000 or XP. Your computer should have enough RAM to run the software (128MB RAM minimum recommended), enough hard drive space to save project files generated during the week (12 GB hard drive or larger recommended - new high capacity external hard drives are excellent) and, ideally, a CD writer for backing up your files. The classroom is kept secure at all all times.

Besides bringing your computer and files to work on, you are encouraged to bring samples of your own work (digital and non-digital) to share with the class and inspiring books for the library (just make sure your name is clearly written in the books).

Beautiful Historical Venue

The Ramada Plaza is a beautiful historical hotel located in the center of San Francisco, next to the Civic Center, at 1231 Market Street, between 8th and 9th streets. It survived the 1906 earthquake and became the temporary city hall for a few years following the earthquake. The class takes place in the magnificent Ghiradelli Room. Secure paid parking is available at the hotel for hotel guests or on the other side of 8th Street at the Trinity Apartments for non-guests. The Ramada is conveniently located at the Civic Center BART station.
